Meet a Carter Scholar!
Tammara Sherard-Dunlap is a senior at Norfolk State University in Virginia and works as a school administrative associate for a local public school system.
Since 2014, she has been a mentor at a local elementary school. Tammara said, “I mentor elementary school students in grades three through five during and after school. My responsibility is to teach the students skills and provide them with strategies that will help them to be successful in school and in life. I focus on principles that will enable them to become productive citizens, such as respect, accountability, growth, education and academic enhancement.”
Tammara was asked “Why do you want to be a Carter scholar?” She said, “I want to be a Carter scholar because the organization stands firm in what I believe, which is financial hardship should not be a reason why any student should not have the opportunity to attend college and become successful. I also believe that I can benefit from the Carter scholar mentorship program and also expand my professional knowledge through support of Dr. Carter and members of her professional network.”
We are cheering and praying for Tammara!
